Five Days in Belize, C.A. PDF Print E-mail
What to Do in Belize
Written by Becky Odenkirk

Five days on Ambergris Caye is just not enough! Sunny beaches, tropical breezes, and friendly locals are just the start of life on Ambergris Caye. You will find many things to do. You can wind surf, parasail, kayak, sailing on Hobie cats, swimming, snorkeling with the sharks and rays, shopping, eating great food, drinking at many beach bars, or just watching the sun rise from your resort beach. If you are adventurous, take a tour of the Mayan ruins on the mainland, or go zip lining through the jungle.

Bring lots of strong sun block, bug repellant for those few days when the wind is calm, shorts and tee shirts, swimsuits, sandals, and souvenir money. There are many beach vendors selling fresh fruit, bead jewelry, weaving, and woodcarving. You can shop in San Pedro for local art of all kinds.

Eating could be a hobby on Ambergris. There are so many restaurants to choose from. George's has great breakfast food. For authentic local food, eat lunch or dinner at The Reef. If you’re looking for an upscale dinner, go to Rico’s. If you just want bar food and Belikins (Belize beer), walk along the beach. You’ll find two to three miles of resorts, hotels, and bars to choose from.

Ambergris is a laid back and casual island. Don’t bother bringing dressy clothes or curling irons. You won’t use them. Pack only play clothes and comfortable walking shoes.

Most traffic is golf carts and taxis. Just walk or ride a bicycle to you destination. If you need to ride, you can rent a golf cart or call a taxi. Taxis are cheap and fast. There are no lines, so be careful. There are parking restrictions on Front Street, so do what the locals do.

Geckos and chameleons keep the insect population down, and birds rule the skies on Ambergris. Caribbean Villas has a “people perch” that climbs above the treetops. Frigate birds, grackles, osprey, eagles, and other birds can be watched and photographed, if you are patient.

Whether you are looking to relax, or find adventure, you will find it in Belize, C. A.. You betta Belize it!

Island and Caye Life
Written by Simon Hillier

As the engine roar melted to a kitten purr and our boat nuzzled up to the Caye Caulker pier, we did a quick inventory check. Dancing palms, tick. Sun bleached beach, tick. Island motto, "Go Slow", painted lazily on a signpost stuck in the sand, tick. I gave my partner in crime a private smile. This was the place. We'd escaped...for now.
